Our achievementsHere are a few of our recent projects in Benin, West Africa. Child repatriation project
Project for the Social Reintegration of Children Trafficked to Work as Agricultural Labourers in Glazoué. A large group of trafficked children were repatriated to Dogbo, Lalo and Toviklin in the Department of Couffo, Za-Kpota in the Department of Zou and Glazoué, and Savalou in the Collines. The Project was funded by IPEC-LUTRENA. Education and awareness raisingThrough the Project for the Prevention of Trafficking in Savalou, we put into place a programme to boost school attendance and literacy rates, encourage professional apprenticeships among vulnerable children, and support community development activities. The project included raising awareness of child trafficking among local authorities, transport workers and community leaders. We also supported the development of effective partnerships between local child rights defenders and state authorities such as the police. ESAM also took care of the medical and psychological needs of children who had formerly been trafficked and were at risk of spreading HIV/AIDS throughout their communities. Our Program for the Education of Military Personnel on Child Rights and Protection Before, During and After Conflicts involved visiting garrisons and military schools to raise awareness among key armed forces personnel. The Project was funded by Save the Children Sweden. Mother and infant healthOur Nutritional Health Program was designed for children under five and breast-feeding mothers. The Project was financed by CARE International. Awareness raising and educationOur Project for the Prevention of Trafficking in Bopa involved raising awareness among communities and officials about the problem of child trafficking and its consequences. We supported formerly trafficked or vulnerable children in enrolling at school or registering for apprenticeship schemes. Project to tackle child trafficking
ESAM's Central-West African Sub-Regional Project to Combat Child Labour and Trafficking included the research and publication of a Code of Conduct outlining the best practices for the treatment of child domestic workers. ESAM used the publications to raise awareness of the issue. This project was funded by Anti Slavery International. Project to raise awareness about child traffickingThrough our Program for Sensitisation of State Officials, we raised awareness of child rights and protection issues among the police, judiciary and social workers. |
